OUR Ride Rules
The Jubilee Park Cycling Club has established a comprehensive set of ride rules to ensure the safety, enjoyment, and inclusivity of all its members. These guidelines are crucial for maintaining order and preventing accidents, as they promote consistent and predictable riding behavior, especially important when cycling in a group. Moreover, the rules create a supportive environment where both novice and experienced cyclists can ride together harmoniously.
By adhering to these standards, the club ensures that rides are conducted in a manner that respects public spaces and other road users, thereby enhancing the club’s reputation within the community. Overall, these ride rules are essential for creating a positive and secure cycling experience for everyone involved.
Safety First:
The safety of all participants is paramount. Obey traffic laws, use appropriate hand signals, and ride predictably. Helmets are mandatory for all riders.
Ride Together:
We ride as a group and leave no one behind. Maintain a pace that is inclusive for all participants, and regroup at designated points along the route.
Flat Tire Protocol:
In case of a flat tire or mechanical issue, signal the group to stop safely. Assist fellow riders if needed, and be prepared to handle basic repairs or call for support if necessary.
Communicate:
Use verbal cues and hand signals to communicate hazards, obstacles, and changes in pace to fellow riders. Call out “Car back” when a vehicle approaches from behind, and “Clear” when a road is safe to cross.
Respect Traffic:
Respect other road users, including motorists, pedestrians, and other cyclists. Yield to pedestrians, obey traffic signals, and ride single file when necessary to allow vehicles to pass safely.
Stay to the Left:
Ride on the left-hand side of the road, in the direction of traffic flow, unless otherwise instructed by ride leaders or traffic conditions require a different approach.
Mind Your Position:
Avoid sudden movements and maintain a consistent line while riding. Do not overlap wheels with other riders, and be mindful of your position within the group.
Equipment Check:
Ensure your bicycle is in good working condition before the ride. Check brakes, tires, gears, and lights (if riding in low light conditions) to minimize the risk of mechanical issues.
Bring Supplies:
Carry essential supplies such as water, snacks, spare tubes, a pump, and tools for basic repairs. Be prepared for changes in weather conditions and dress accordingly.
Follow Ride Leaders:
Follow the instructions of designated ride leaders and adhere to the planned route. If you need to leave the group or deviate from the route, inform the ride leader or fellow riders.
Be Courteous:
Show respect and courtesy to fellow riders, ride leaders, and other road users. Encourage a positive and supportive atmosphere within the group.
Leave No Trace:
Dispose of any litter responsibly and respect the environment through which we ride. Leave the areas we visit as we found them, or better.
Emergency Contact:
Carry identification, emergency contact information, and a mobile phone in case of emergencies. Familiarize yourself with the route and nearby facilities.
Have Fun:
Cycling is an enjoyable activity, enjoy the ride, enjoy the camaraderie of the group and explore new routes. Celebrate your achievements and support each other along the way.
By adhering to these ride rules, we can ensure a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive experience for all participants in Jubilee Park Cycling Club rides.
